Researchers at BioGrid Australia member and/or collaborator institutions may submit new or amended applications requesting access to data connected to BioGrid using our online application system.
Authorised researchers can explore and visualise data on specified connected data utilising a web interface.
Authorised researchers can utilise this comprehensive data and statistical analysis application to analyse, explore and visualise connected datasets for approved audit and research projects.
BioGrid designs and develops, in partnership with clinicians and researchers, bespoke web-based applications utilising a relational database management system. These web-based applications can be accessed internally within your hospital or clinic using your network login and can also be configured to receive data from other internal data sources, such as patient management and pathology systems.
For clinic-based databases (e.g. Diabetes, Dermatology) the solution is developed to generate electronic letters from data collected in the system, to provide to other health professionals who are part of the multi-disciplinary care team for a patient.
In addition, the solution includes uploading the visit record, when finalised, to the site’s electronic medical record system. The management of patients’ diagnosis, treatment and follow-up information is recorded in these clinical software solutions. For software that is designed to operate within clinics (with clinicians reviewing and updating patient information during consultations) the application produces patient summary reports and letters to facilitate multi-disciplinary care.
For research-based databases (e.g. ePAD, TRACC, TABITHA), the focus is having a bespoke software solution that can collect detailed treatment (e.g. medications, chemotherapy regimens) and treatment response information including toxicities, adverse events and disease progression.
BioGrid has developed a number of web-based applications for the collection and management of health information to support clinical care and facilitate clinical research. These applications are available for use by all BioGrid Members and Collaborators and include:
ACCORD (Oncology Clinical and Research Database)
ANZTHOR Registry (Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Thoracic Clinical Quality Registry)
Diabetes Clinical and Research Database
Dermatology Clinical and Research Database
ePAD (electronic Prostate Cancer Australian Database) Clinical Registry
Pituitary Tumour Clinical and Research Database
TRACC (Treatment of Recurrent and Advanced Colorectal Cancer) Clinical Registry
TABITHA (Treatment of Advanced Breast Cancer in the HER2 Positive Australian Patient) Clinical Registry
These databases can also be connected to the BioGrid Australia data linkage platform, enabling data to be used for approved collaborative clinical audit and research projects.

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases or research. If you wish to utilise REDCap to collect your research data, BioGrid can assist with designing and configuring a dataset to your requirements utilising the REDCap software.
The REDCap software is free to use if your site has a REDCap license and if your use is for non-commercial purposes. REDCap can be configured more quickly than bespoke software can be developed, and for some research applications, such as patient questionnaires, it is ideal.
BioGrid has configured REDCap for use by clinicians working with rare cancers to provide an international dataset and collection tool that can be used across the world to facilitate consistent collection of data for rare cancers.
REDCap can be used to capture research study specific information that would not normally be collected in a clinical management system. BioGrid can facilitate custom solutions for sites that enables integration of other data to and from REDCap.

Where BioGrid-developed software is being used, the role of BioGrid Australia is to:
At each site where BioGrid-developed software is installed, a local Administrator is appointed as the subject matter expert for the database. The Administrator assists users with how to use the database and maintains the entries in the drop down lists in the application.
The local site's IT department supports users in case of network or server failure or if users forget their network password, which will be required to access the database. A local database administrator within the site's IT department may be required to help with data issues that may arise as BioGrid does not have authority to access the source database where data is entered.
